    SeaWorld Orlando is making room for baby. The park welcomed a new female killer whale calf to the Shamu family February 9. The calf's mother, Kalina, gave birth to the 7-foot-long, 350-pound calf at 10:10 p.m. This calf is the 19th killer whale born at SeaWorld parks in Orlando, Fla., San Diego, Calif. and San Antonio, Texas.

  • The largest male killer whale at SeaWorld, Tilikum, weighs more than 11,000 pounds and consumes more than 140,000 calories each day. Adult killer whales eat approximately 4 percent of their body weight each day.
  • Killer whales are the ocean's top predator, which means they eat just about anything they want - including other whales.

  • Killer whales at SeaWorld are trained to cooperate in every aspect of their care, including teeth cleaning, obtaining blood samples and even urinating on cue for obtaining important hormone levels.
